One key thing that Classical Fencing teaches

Maitre Adam Adrian Crown is a classical fencing master in the United States of America. (‘Maitre’ denotes ‘Master’ in the French language.) I have watched a few of his videos on YouTube, and much of what he says about the practice of his art resonates with me. (A caution: from my recollection, some of his videos do contain coarse language, and of course, they deal with matters of life and death.)

If you are of the mindset that a martial art is a serious practice (not a game) while also recognising that a traditional martial art is not solely about ‘winning’ against others, you may find Maitre Crown’s discourses to be of both interest and value. HIs latest video (26 October 2024) was of particular interest and is well worth watching.

I studied fencing (primarily foil) in the early 1990s, briefly, and was immediately struck by the complexity and technical elegance of that art—aspects that might not be obvious unless one has tried it oneself, or had the benefit of an informed presentation.
